Education transforms lives. Governance determines whose.
Education changed the trajectory of my life and I want every student in this district to have the opportunity to discover just how far their education can take them.
Governance starts with listening. Learning what our students and educators need, value, and are asking for is not just a priority among many. It needs to be our North Star.
TUHSD has extraordinary assets. Talented educators, dedicated families, and a $130 million budget. We should be setting the standard for excellence in education, with no student left behind. That is what this community has always believed in.
That is the commitment I am making to this community. Not just on election day. Every time I vote.
GOVERNANCE & TRUST
Our students are watching how our leadership behaves.
A board leads by example. And it's evaluated on its actions, not its intentions.
Treat everyone with dignity, period. I'll fight hard for our students without ridiculing the people who disagree with me. Disagreement is not disrespect, and it shouldn't be met with it either.
Make room for real discussion. Let public comment expand to meet the need. Create listening sessions for the conversations a board meeting agenda can't hold.
Explain every vote. The community deserves to understand every decision, especially the contested ones so no one has to guess why the board landed where it did.
BUDGET & EQUITY
Fund what we believe in.
What we fund is what we value. What we cut reveals who we’re willing to leave behind.
Adopt an equity framework and apply it to every financial decision. Create a standard for assessing who is affected and how, so equity actually shapes the choices being made.
Let the community weigh-in on the trade-offs before the vote. In advance of a Board vote, describe every reduction scenario in plain language, explaining its student impact.
Earn the right to ask for the community’s investment. In 2028, two out of three voters need to say yes to renew the parcel tax that keeps our schools strong with smaller classes and unique offerings. Earning the community’s trust to do this work must start now.
SPECIAL EDUCATION
A plan that outlasts the budget cycle.
Deliver a reliable, equitable plan for our students and their families, even amid financial constraints.
Develop a plan with a vision beyond the budget cycle.
Special education is one of the fastest-growing costs in the District. Create a multi-year strategy that manages cost while consistently delivering appropriate individualized services to the students and their families who depend on it.
Forecast for the students we know are coming.
Our feeder districts already know which students will arrive needing specialized support. We need a system to embed that information into our planning cycle years ahead, not when the students matriculate into our District.
Expand District capacity with our education partners.
In instances were we can appropriately serve students while containing costs, let’s explore expanding our District services.
ACHIEVEMENT & OPPORTUNITY
The vision exists. The urgent question is why we haven't delivered it.
The district’s vision statement is to eliminate the predictability of student outcomes based on race or income. I believe in this vision. What I cannot accept is another year of the same gaps, the same patterns, and the same students being left behind while we talk about change instead of delivering it.
The data tells a clear story. The achievement gap is pronounced. We only have a 4-year cycle to change the trajectory of our students’ future. Closing this gap requires a renewed sense of urgency. We need to reevaluate the efficacy of our interventions to ensure what they promise to deliver are making an impact fast enough.
Opportunity must be genuinely accessible. AP courses, college prep pathways, and career opportunities should be available to every student, not just those whose families know how to navigate the system. Access on paper is not the same as access in practice.
Start the work before 9th grade. The transition to high school is one of the most critical moments in a young person's education. Let’s tighten our connections with our feeder districts so that when a student walks through our doors, we already know who they are and what they need.
Fund new programs and approaches with enough runway to measure results. Defined terms with real evaluation points, not annual renewals that die the moment budgets tighten. Programs that raise achievement deserve stability, not a yearly fight for survival. If a program is working, that's a reason to fund it, not cut it.
TECH READINESS
Develop students who can use the technology, and perform without it.
Students who master uniquely human skills like critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and creativity will thrive in an AI future. Yet the District has allocated only $5,000 to an AI task force to wrestle with this age-defining technology.
Support the teachers. Real training, real time, and a voice in what the District adopts and how it adopts it. Let’s draw upon our broader community’s expertise and ensure that we are bringing all the stakeholders to the table to build a well-informed plan that prepares our students for their futures.
Teach students to use technology ethically, not just effectively. Bias, consent, attribution, environmental cost, and the difference between using a tool and outsourcing your judgment.
Protect core learning and develop fundamental skills. Our goal should be to ensure that our students can think, reason, and solve hard problems on their own; without technology when it matters, with it when required.
